Union Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’ said on Friday that the National Education Policy-2020 (NEP) will make India a superpower in the field of knowledge, as it connects the past with the future. Pokhriyal while addressing the ninth convocation ceremony of IIT Bhubaneswar through video conference said that the new National Education Policy will pave the way for the education of all and various subjects. The Center introduced a new education policy in July amid the Covid-19 crisis.

Pokhriyal said that due to the excellent education system in the country, scholars from all over the world used to travel to India to study in Nalanda and Taxila. The minister said, “India, equipped with the new education policy, will once again emerge as a world guru in the field of studies and a superpower in the field of knowledge, as it connects our past with the future.”

Pokhriyal said that the new education policy will enable Indian students to progress and excel in all areas of life. At the same time, the country will become a job provider and it will not be a job seeker.

The minister also stressed on linking India’s talent with patents as it will play an important role in the economic development of the country. He said that National Research Fund and National Technological Forum will also bring major changes in the environment for research and development, which will become more inclusive. 

Appreciating the NEP as a comprehensive framework for vocational training from primary to higher education and in rural and urban areas, he said that it aims to present India’s diversity in the context of regional languages. Also, to provide the benefit of providing primary education in the mother tongue.

On this occasion, Union Minister of State for Education Sanjay Dhotre praised the work done by the institute’s faculty members, students and researchers in various fields during the Covid-19 epidemic in the innovation of various technologies. During the convocation, the institute conferred degrees to 446 students, including 35 PhDs, 141 MTech, MSCK 70 and 200 BTech students.
