The Supreme Court has issued a notice to the education officials of the Rajasthan government asking why contempt proceedings be initiated against them for not complying with its order of 2019. The apex court had ordered that 70 per cent of the salary paid to the teachers by a government-aided school, closed in 2011, be paid to the institute concerned.
A bench of Justice RF Nariman, Justice BR Gavai and Justice Hrishikesh Roy said, “They (officials) have done nothing”. The Bishwambhar Lal Maheshwari Education Foundation’s school was a government-aided educational institution, which closed in 2011. The institute used to get 70 percent assistance from the government.
On May 6, the bench issued a notice to the education authorities of the Rajasthan government on a contempt petition filed by the school trust and sought a reply within four weeks. Advocate Dushyant Parashar, appearing for the petitioner, argued that the Rajasthan government has not complied with the apex court’s September 30, 2019 order. The court had directed the trust to pay all the teachers of the school in accordance with the Sixth Pay Commission and then ask the state government to compensate it.
