The country’s top higher educational institutions, including the IITs, believe that vaccinating students, teachers and staff as soon as possible to prevent Covid-19 can ensure their safe return to the campus. Most of the higher education institutions are providing education in a mixed manner due to the Covid-19 epidemic, while some IIT institutes are currently having a limited number of students on campus.
IIT Guwahati director TG Sitaram said, “Vaccination seems to be very important and effective for everyone in terms of prevention of corona virus. At IIT Guwahati we believe that our students, faculty members and staff should be vaccinated so that as the cases fall, the campuses can be easily re-opened and the students return to the campus safely and receive uninterrupted training. ”
Bhaskar Ramamurthy, director of IIT Madras, also held a similar view and said, “If students living in residential campuses are vaccinated, the potential risk will be reduced by the reopening of hostels and commencement of classes in the campus.” ”
According to sources, some IIT directors, in a meeting with Union Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal last week, requested that students be vaccinated quickly to ensure safe return to the campuses.
Shiv Umapati, director of the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER), Bhopal, said, “Being a residential campus, the institute favors the return of students who have received at least the first dose of vaccine. In this regard, the institute will follow the guidelines issued by the government and will appreciate the support of the government for the availability of vaccines according to the need. ”
