The Tamil Nadu government on Monday boycotted an online meeting of Union Human Resource Development Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’ on National Education Policy 2020 and said it did not receive favorable response from the Center for ministerial discussion on education policy. Pokhriyal had called a meeting with the state education secretaries to discuss the implementation of the education policy 2020 and other matters.

The newly created DMK government had called for a ministerial discussion on the amendment in the education policy. School Education Minister Anbil Mahesh Poyamozhi told reporters in Tiruchirappalli, “We offered our views as solutions to various problems arising due to the implementation of NEP (National Education Policy) in its present form. But the Center did not respond (and decided to proceed to a meeting of the Secretary level). So we boycotted the meeting. “

Objecting to the silent implementation of Hindi and Sanskrit through the three-language formula, the minister said that the centralization of education is unacceptable, as it is not the case even in developed countries. He said, “Delhi cannot decide what the people of Tamil Nadu, especially our rural students, should learn. Tamil Nadu’s two-language policy has been in place since Anna’s time. ”

DMK founder and former Chief Minister CN Annadurai is called Anna. The proposed three-language formula of the NEP has been strongly opposed in Tamil Nadu and the previous AIADMK government had also made it clear earlier that the state would follow only a two-language system that included Tamil and English. Poyyamozhi said that the implementation of the three-language policy will pave the way for the imposition of Hindi and Sanskrit.

The minister said, “We have a multi-cultural and multi-linguistic society … We cannot accept the imposition of Hindi and Sanskrit.” The implementation of the three language policy will not benefit our rural students. The DMK is firm on its policies. ” He said the DMK is against the third, fifth and eighth grade board exams and claimed that NEP is silent on the reservation.
