Byju’s said in a statement that it has acquired Epic, a digital platform for reading books for children aged 12 and under, for $500 million (approximately Rs 3,729.8 crore). This acquisition will help the company strengthen its position in the US.

this acquisition, Byju’s will be able to make its services available to existing global users of Epic. These include more than 20 lakh teachers and more than 5 crore children. The number of users of the company has more than doubled from last year.

Epic CEO Suren Markosian and co-founder Kevin Donahue will continue to play their roles as before. Epic has a collection of over 40,000 books, audio books and videos from over 250 of the world’s best publishers. It has kept its service free for the teachers. More than 20 lakh teachers are associated with it.

With the epidemic of Corona, rapid development is being seen in the field of education technology in various countries of the world including India. Children are studying online instead of going to schools and colleges, which has given a boom in this field. Many companies have raised funds from investors for business expansion. Byju’s has raised about $1.5 billion in various installments since April last year. Byju’s (Think & Learn Pvt. Ltd.) has raised funds from large investors including General Atlantic, Sequoia Capital, Chan-Zuckerberg Initiative, Naspers, Silver Lake and Tiger Global.

Byju’s started in 2015 and has over 100 million students using its services globally. It is acquiring companies to strengthen its position in various categories. Prior to that he tutors Vista and Edu Wright (from Pearson in 2017) and acquired Osmo in 2019. Last year, the company had bought coding training platform WhiteHat Junior for $300 million and in April this year, the company acquired Aakash Educational Services Ltd.
