President Ram Nath Kovind has said that the objective of the National Education Policy is to make India a global knowledge superpower in the 21st century. Institutions like NIT Rourkela have to play a major role in achieving these national objectives.

He was addressing the 18th initiation ceremony of the National Institute of Technology (NIT) in Rourkela on Sunday. During this, he honored six gold medalists Rishabh Bajaj, Kajal Aggarwal, Shubhadra Shubhadarsini, Satwik Sadhu, Sirja Rai and Krishna Kumar Jaiswal.

The President emphasized on encouraging girls in the field of technical education. He said that this effort will promote high level of people empowerment in the field of science and technology.

Referring to the National Education Policy, the President said that there is a provision in the policy that engineering institutions should move towards more holistic and multi-disciplinary education with more emphasis on arts and humanities.
