National Commission for Minorities Chairman Atif Rashid has said that the new education policy is in accordance with the constitutional provisions. It will create educational upliftment and gain potential in socio-economically disadvantaged communities including religious and linguistic minorities. He was addressing as the chief guest at a national webinar organized at Aligarh Muslim University on the topic of National Education Policy 2020 and Minority Education.
The program was organized by the University’s Center for Promotion of Education and Cultural Advancement of Muslims in India.
Atif Rashid said that NEP-2020 was the need of the hour to change the future of all the children and youth of the country. This education policy is in line with sustainable development. It provides equal opportunities to all sections and ensures the success of the nation’s self-reliance campaign. He said that the National Education Policy envisages a comprehensive multidisciplinary holistic education with multiple entry and exit points with flexible curricula, creative combination of subjects, integration of vocational education and appropriate certification and promotion of multilingualism.
Presiding over the AMU Vice Chancellor Prof. Tariq Mansoor said that after considering a wide range of suggestions, the NEP has been widely accepted across the country. He said that it is rare to have nationwide consensus on any subject in a democratic country. The National Policy on Education has been introduced at the right time to accelerate the process of developing quality institutions, adopting a culture of innovation and creating a highly skilled workforce.
The Vice Chancellor said that there is a need to promote teaching-training in the mother tongue, but the use of English language in education should not be discouraged. The program was attended by Professor SK Singh, former Dean of Garhwal University, Father Sunny Jacob, Secretary, Jesuit Educational Association, South Asia, Inamdar, President of Maharashtra Cosmapolitan Education Society, Zafar Mahmood, President of Zakat Foundation of India, Professor Furkan, former Vice Chancellor of Rajasthan and Himachal Pradesh University. Qamar, Professor Asmar Baig, Department of Political Science, AMU, Naseem Ahmed, the organizer of the event, also expressed their views. It was conducted by Dr. Rehan Akhtar Qasmi.
